Helping people with asbestos diseases into the future

You can keep helping us to care for people in the future by leaving a bequest to Asbestoswise in your will. Current estimates predict that the level of asbestos disease will peak in about 2020, and that these diseases will continue to affect the community until at least 2050. By leaving a bequest you can help us to meet the needs of people with asbestos diseases in the future.

Please contact Asbestowise if you would like us to supply you with donation envelopes.

Making a will is important

Everybody should make a will, no matter what his or her assets are. By making a will you can ensure that all your affairs will be settled exactly as you wish. If you die without a will, your estate will be settled according to the laws of the state. If no relatives can be traced, it may mean that your estate goes to the government.

You can change your will whenever you like and you should review it every few years to ensure that it continues to represent your wishes.

While it is possible for you to prepare your own will, we strongly recommend that you seek advice from a properly qualified trustee or solicitor.

How to make your bequest to Asbestoswise

We recommend that you seek the advice of your solicitor when making a will. Here are some of the ways in which you can include Asbestoswise in your will. You can:

  • leave the residue of your estate to Asbestoswise after specific bequests and gifts have been left to family and friends
  • leave a nominated portion or a fixed percentage of your estate to Asbestoswise

However, remember that if your bequest is made as a fixed sum of money the effects of inflation may, over time, reduce the value of your gift.

Changing your will

If your existing will is otherwise satisfactory, but you would like to include a bequest to Asbestoswise, you can add a codicil. This must be signed and witnessed by your solicitor or the Public Trustee.

Wording for your will

In making your bequest to Asbestoswise you could use one of the following wordings:

  • I bequeath (free of all duties) ... % of my estate ...
  • I bequeath the residue of my estate ...
  • I bequeath the sum of $ ...
  • I bequeath Life Insurance Policy/Bond No. ... with ... Limited..

... to Asbestoswise ABN 74 776 624 469, with the written acknowledgment of the Secretary or other proper officer of Asbestoswise to be accepted by my executors as a full and complete discharge.
