Asbestos Related Disease (ARD) Support Groups
Asbestoswise runs two support groups for people affected by an ARD.
The ARD Support Group is open to people who have been diagnosed with an ARD, their carers, families and friends. The group provides a forum where people can meet and discuss issues that are pertinent to their circumstances. It offers friendship and understanding in an inclusive and safe environment.
The ARD Bereavement Support Group focuses on support for carers, families and friends. The group is about giving and receiving support, providing the opportunity to form long term friendships, sharing valuable knowledge and experience with the rest of the group.
Both groups cover a range of topics including medical treatments, pain management, health, nutrition, financial management and legal issues. Guest speakers are periodically invited to share their knowledge and experience with the groups. Group members play an active role in identifying topics for discussion which are of relevance to them.
Comprehensive facts, information sheets and booklets are available at each meeting. ARD Support Group members also have access to Asbestoswise's ever expanding library of reference books, DVDs and CDs.
A light luncheon, tea, coffee and juices are provided.
- ARD Support Group meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 11am-2pm at the South Melbourne Community Centre, corner Park Street and Ferrars Place, South Melbourne.
